Masters 2015

Augusta. Home of the Masters.

Augusta, Georgia is more than just a beautiful place; every year the city hosts one of the world’s most famous sporting events, the Masters Golf Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club. The Augusta National is arguably the most beautiful golf course in the world. Past Masters winner Sam Snead once said, “I don’t want to sound overly sentimental about it. But with the course looking the way it does and the spirit of Bobby Jones running around, sometimes it feels as though the Masters is played on hallowed ground.”

Membership to the club is extremely exclusive and is by invitation only. Past and present members include former U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower, Warren Buffet, and Bill Gates.

This prestigious tournament is held during the first full week in April and was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts in 1934. The best golfers in the world are invited to play in the tournament based on their accomplishments. Past winners include Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Phil Mickelson. In addition to the coveted Green Jacket and a lifetime invitation to the tournament, the winner earns a large sum of money. The 2014 winner took home $1.62 million.

The Masters is an economic boom to Augusta every year. But excitement for the tournament lasts all year long as everyone prepares for the event. Azaleas are groomed, houses are prepped for rental and caterers perfect recipes as the whole city comes together to showcase southern hospitality to golf fanatics. This year the tournament will take place during the week of Monday, April 6 – Sunday, April 12. This year’s top contenders include 2014 winner Bubba Watson and #1 ranked golfer Rory McIlroy.
